WINNERS or WHINERS®....WEEK TEN WRAP UP.

Apologies for the tardiness of this update but me day job took priority. So stop your whining!

We hit on six of eight picks last Saturday while coming pretty close on Elaine's, George the Cat's sister, BIG PICK of the WEEK until LSU decided not to play defense on the very last possession as they let Alabama pull out a win, 21-17, provoking Bengal Tiger faithful to criticize Les Miles (it's tough being an SEC head coach). But in Bama's comeback victory, they showed once again why they are the best in America.

In addition to the Bama-LSU contest, we saw some great games and our forecasts proved to be a lot more dependable than the predictions made by the GOP pollsters, especially those retained by Faux News. But that's for an entirely different column since we're a non-partisan college football site.

Let's pop the hood on last weekend.

THE WEEKEND REWIND®...

Joker isn't laughing after losing 40-0.
Vandy finished off Joker Phillip's head coaching gig at Kentucky by whipping the Cats 40-0, its largest margin against Kentucky in 96 years. So now Kentucky jump starts the coaching carousel by dumping Joker and starting the search for a new coach to come to basketball country. Not an easy task.

Nebraska forced me to pull out my last remaining strands of hair by coming back to win 28-24 over Michigan State in East Lansing. They continue to give me heart burn with their on again-off again performance. But that's the beauty of college football, and you gotta love how the Cornhuskers came back to win it with six seconds left as Taylor Martinez hit Jamal Turner on a little 5 yard TD pass.

The Nittany Lions beat the Purdue Boilmakers, 34-9. Penn State QB Matt McGloin was 22-36 for 321 yards and two touchdowns. This game was over at the half as Penn State was up 20-3 over a very mediocre Purdue team which is 3-6 (0-5).

Does anyone play defense on the West Coast? The combined offensive yardage for the Oregon-Southern Cal was 1345 yards as the #2 Oregon Ducks outlasted #18 Trojans, 62-51. Oregon tailback, Kenjon Barner, ran for a school record 321 yards and five touchdowns. The only guy busier in Los Angeles was the stat man.

As predicted, Ole Miss remembered they were Ole Miss and fell 37-10 to Georgia, and the Bulldawgs inched closer to the SEC Championship game. Stat of the game is Aaron Murray's 21-28 passing for 384 yards, four touchdowns, and NO INTs. His fake hand off, 66 yard TD pass to Marlon Brown was a thing of beauty. Shoulda saved that one for December 1st.

Johnny Football looking for a Heisman?
The Aggies manhandled Mississippi State, 38-13, and improved their SEC record to 4-2. Johnny Football was 30 of 36 for 311 passing yards and ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns. I love this kid! Since starting the season 7-0, Missy State has been outscored 76-20. So for all those Vol fans screaming for Dan Mullen to be their next head coach, you might want to take a closer look at his actual win-lost record. It's not as pretty as you think.

We missed on Texas Tech as the Red Raiders lost to Texas 31-22, and the Longhorns won the coveted Chancellor's Spurs and their fourth road win this season. Combined yardage for this game was 868 yards so maybe defense is missing in the Big 12, too.

THIS COMING SATURDAY...

George the Cat's BIG PICK of the WEEK features Northwestern @ Michigan, so be looking for his video pick on Friday. We'll also have a nice cross-section of SEC games like Georgia @ Auburn, Texas A&M @ Alabama along with Penn State @ Nebraska and Georgia Tech @ North Carolina
