WEEK ELEVEN: HOME STRETCH BEGINS

Last Saturday we had a few surprises to keep things interesting as we went 4-4 in our Great Eight™ picks.

Not the results we were looking for but we're still sitting at 63% which keeps us in the green.

Saturday Surprises

Last Saturday we witnessed the world's shortest press conference (42 seconds) with Steve Spurrier after his Gamecocks were jumped by Tennessee in overtime. Funny how a guy that has never been shy around a microphone came up speechless. Can you say "sore loser?"....

....seems the Georgia football team missed their bus ride to the stadium on Saturday because the Bulldogs didn't show up to play. Talk about getting de-pants on a national stage. The Gators took the fight to UGA and never looked back, rushing for 418 yards (with only six pass attempts) and winning 38-20. And, as expected, many mutt fans are calling for Mark Richt's head...

...we correctly picked Auburn to beat Ole Miss but the ending was surprising as the Rebels lost a heartbreaker on a fumble at the goal line with 1:30 left in the game. This pretty much removes the Rebels from the playoff discussion and they still have games with Arkansas and Mississippi State...

...we had the outcome correct but West Virginia took TCU to the wire before the Horned Frogs came back in one of the more entertaining games of the day.

But enough about last Saturday. Time to focus on Making Mo' Money with Mark™.

There are a bunch of great games this Saturday featuring top teams that still have a shot at the college football playoff. And plenty of opportunities for you to make some cash with the right picks. So let's get to it.

YOUR GREAT EIGHT™ WINNING PICKS
#16 Ohio State @ #8 Michigan State...if there is a headliner game for Saturday, it's this one in East Lansing. There is absolutely no love between these teams as evidenced by the last few seasons where each team has spoiled the others championship hopes. The Spartans have a nasty defense, limiting 5 of their last 8 opponents to 17 points or less. But can they limit a Buckeye offense that has averaged 50+ points in 5 of their last 6 games? TJ Barrett, OSU's QB, has the hot hand right now and may be too much for Sparty to handle. In an UPSET SPECIAL, take the Buckeyes over the Spartans.

#10 Notre Dame @ #14 Arizona State...key stat to ponder: the Irish tend to struggle the week after playing Navy. In the last 7 seasons, Notre Dame is 2-5 the week after facing Navy. And this Saturday they face a tough Sun Devil team who is favored in Tempe. Both teams need a win to stay in the playoff discussions. Everret Golson is playing lights out and the Irish will need him to step up again if they want to keep their future bright. We think he does. Take Notre Dame in another UPSET SPECIAL.

#13 Baylor @ #18 Oklahoma...some key points of interest:  Baylor has never won in Norman. And the Bears are leading the nation in offensive yards with 590+ yards per game. That's pretty stout. But Baylor has not beaten a ranked opponent on the road since 1991. That's a long drought. But it ends tomorrow. Bears bite the Sooners in Norman.

#6 Alabama @ #19 LSU...this could be another showcase game for Alabama's Amari Cooper as he goes up against a challenged LSU secondary. And to balance things out, look for Bama's Yeldon and Henry to pile up the yards with a backfield that averages 218 yards per game. BUT Les Miles is 46-4 in night games in Baton Rouge, and we all know what can happen in Cajun Country at night. But Bama is just too tough on defense and will chase Ant Jennings all night long. Bama wins big in the Bayou.

#9 Kansas State @ #7 Texas Christian...if you caught the TCU comeback win over West Virginia last Saturday, you saw a dandy as the Horned Frogs erased a ten point deficit in the last seven minutes to win 31-30. Meanwhile Kansas State has been playing well since their early season loss to Auburn. The winner of this game is pretty much a lock for the Big 12 championship. Both teams have great quarterbacks - Boykin and Waters - so look for the scoreboard to light up. In a close one, take TCU.

#5 Oregon @ #17 Utah...by winning four straight games, including last week's 45-16 rout of Stanford, the Ducks have gotten themselves squarely back into the playoff picture. The Utes have been strong all season but went dormant in last week's loss to Arizona State. The Utes are tough at home but if Oregon gets past Utah, they should cruise for the rest of the season. Go with the Ducks.

#17 Georgia @ Kentucky...do you think this has been a fun week in Athens as Mark Richt re-assembles his team after last week's embarrassment? Hopefully they worked on run defense which was sliced and diced last Saturday by the Gators, allowing over 400 rushing yards. While the Wildcats got off to a good start under new head coach Mark Stoops, they still need to win out to be bowl eligible. Not gonna happen. Take the Dawgs over the Cats.

#24 Georgia Tech @ NC State...the Jackets have snuck back into the Top 25 after beating Virginia last Saturday. And the Bee's defense seems to be coming around, which is a good thing given their past struggles. Tech must win to keep their Coastal Division hopes alive. Look for the Bees to buzz the Wolfpack.

Check back later to see how we did.
